  • A big Thank You to K.R. Johnson for making time to speak with the club about the library.

  • Camie Tyler read the new purpose of Active Voices.  Carol Wilson moved to accept the new purpose, Sue Antoszewski seconded.  It was unanimously accepted.  The purpose of Active Voices is as follows:

This organization has (2) primary functions:

i.                     Duty:  As members of human society, it is our duty to do what can be done to take an active role in affecting change when it is necessary, accepting and tolerating the ideas of others when we disagree, and allowing our minds to stay open so that we may look at issues from new perspectives.

ii.                   Dialogue:  In order to take an active role in this society, we must maintain an open dialogue and foster the exchange of ideas between ourselves and those around us.  We must educate ourselves on all aspects of the problems we choose to face so that we can be as effective as possible in reaching our goals.

  • Camie Tyler proposed the organizations that Active Voice’s club money would go to if the club were ever to disband.  Funds upon Termination organizations for Active Voices are Habitat for Humanity and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.  Carol Wilson moved to accept the organizations, Sue Antoszewski seconded.  It was unanimously accepted.

  • The Active Voices Constitution was approved and each member present signed their approval.  The club needs two additional approvals and signatures before the Constitution will be valid.  It will be presented again at the next two meeting dates so it can be turned in as soon as possible to Gary Demski, Student Activities Director.

  • Carol Wilson explained the research she and Sue Antoszewski had found on the library.  After determined information from Carol and informative information from K.R. Johnson, it was decided the best plan of action for change for the library would be focusing on renovation and the remodeling of the facility.  The need of better seating/tables, study areas, computers, and over-all remodeling will be the main focus (at present) of Active Voices.

  • Camie Tyler will ask Dr. Dworkin, Dr. Pula, Mr. Back and Mr. Turner to come to a future meeting where the club can present their call for a plan of action for the library facilities for renovation and remodel.  Active Voices will stress among other points that environment encourages learning.

  • November is Native American Heritage Month.  Active Voices may team up with the Social Work Club on a project.  More information to come.

  • August 20 is New Student Orientation. Active Voices will have a table set up.  More information to come.

  • More information to come on possible upcoming execution at Indiana State Prison.

  • Sam Maule had mentioned the club may want to publish a monthly newsletter to get the word out to the campus of what the club is about and doing.
